Nokia WidSets, a New Medium for Advertisers to Advertise

Nokia WidSets Nokia has come up with a novel way to let advertisers have a wider reach to their customers. Advertisers can now promote their brands through WidSets, a feature already available in high-end Nokia mobile models.

“With more than 7 million registered members, WidSets now offers advertisers a unique opportunity to target advertisements directly to people through a device that is always with them,” said Jarmo Jokinen, director of WidSets, Nokia. “WidSets raises the bar from today’s mobile Internet experiences and makes it easier and more cost effective for people to take their favorite online content, such as news, social networks and games, with them anywhere.”

Mike Baker, vice president and head of Nokia Interactive added that WidSets highlights the ability of Nokia to give a wider and co-ordinated reach to their brand clients, multiplying their consumer experiences.

All that the brand promoters have to do is either work with Nokia and build their own WidSets by using applications that facilitate advertising and promoting or pull traffic through their already existing mobile Internet properties.

WidSets plans to provide this service to advertisers by placing the advertisements within the Widsets service. WidSets is a mobile content consumption, creation and sharing service and is available in more than 300 Nokia and non-Nokia devices. It features widgets from more than 5000 brands like Wall Street Journal, Twitter and Foreca. WidSets will also be made available by Nokia in their devices produced from Spring 2008 onwards creating a wider distribution network.

The launch of the new feature was kick started by Volvo and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) named as the launch advertisers. Volvo launched its advertising campaign for xc60 concept SUV in Finland while WWF kick started it ‘Stop climate change’ on a global scale through WidSets. Top brands like BMW, Kraft and Paramount are advertising themselves through the mini-application via Nokia.
