Nissan,NTT,Sharp,Key MobileBrace yourself for a really innovative piece of technology. Automaker Nissan, wireless network provider NTT DoCoMo and Sharp, the electronic company known for combining new technology and design have signed an agreement to introduce the world’s premier mobile phone with a built-in intelligent key for automobiles.

Equipped with two-way wireless communications, the prototype phone will support an intelligent key to lock or unlock the car door and start and stop the car engine. With some interesting electromagnetic technologies, there are no details on other features and software applications of the phone. Apparently it will be a flip phone and should sport some basic functionality.

Nissan, DOCOMO and Sharp in a joint statement remarked “As mobile phones increasingly become a daily necessity, the integration of these technologies and the potential to further expand related functionality helped to bring together the three parties, who expect users to appreciate the seamlessly integrated features of their new handset.”

So you now have a gadget that can act as a remote control with the ability to lock/unlock and start/stop your car. Well we are wondering what more could the small body of a mobile phone do. We’ve seen them as walkmans, pocket PCs, exclusive cameras and now a key for your car.

While the price of this smart key phone is still a mystery, it is expected to retail exclusively at Japanese stores by early 2009. The distinct mobile phone with integrated intelligent key will be exhibited at CEATAC Japan 2008.
