MTNL and Motorola together pioneer 3G in India – PM of India makes First video call

Prime Minister and IT Minister, 3G launch

India’s leading telecom service provider, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), has launched India’s first 3G services. This service was inaugurated by Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India; and Mr. A. Raja, Minister for Communications & IT.

Motorola’s MOTORAZR V9 Ferrari Special Edition mobile phone, in collaboration with Motorola’s 3G network, enabled India’s first video call. This historic video call was made by India’s respected Prime Minister; Dr. Manmohan Singh. The launch of 3G services can benefit the privileged MTNL customers in New Delhi and Mumbai. These MTNL customers will be one of the first few who can make use of these services in India. They will be able to avail of the new services provided, like mobile TV, mobile internet broadband, high speed data transfers, video mobile surveillance, and video streaming and conferencing.

MTNL’s chairman and managing director, Mr. RSP Sinha, says, “We believe in providing the latest technology and services to our customers and are proud to be the first telecom services provider in India to launch the 3G service. We are working closely with technology partners like Motorola to provide a suite of advanced mobile applications that are not being offered by any other existing carriers. We believe these services will create a paradigm shift in the mobile experience of the Indian consumer.”

The country head and global services director, Home & Networks Mobility, Motorola India, Subhendu Mohanty, says that, “We are delighted to announce that MTNL has chosen Motorola to address its critical 3G network infrastructure requirement. This year marks 20 years of Motorola’s commitment to the Indian market and reinforces our leading position in India’s telecom revolution. The contract has proven Motorola’s ability in providing next generation technological solutions and services in the highly competitive telecom industry in India.”

Motorola’s 3G network infrastructure consists of core network elements, radio access network, inclusive of various services like networks deployment, project management and system integration.
