Motorola teams up with Microsoft to offer search and maps services

Microsoft And Motorola LogoMotorola loyalists may now be able to search more effectively than ever. Well, Motorola has declared its universal association with Microsoft Corp. to install Bing services on Motorola phones run by Android.

This new offering, releasing in China on smartphones in Q1, can offer users an option when accessing search and map functions on their Android-based handsets. With this partnership, people can encompass the privilege of a pre-loaded Bing bookmark on their mobile browser and a superior search widget with Bing incorporation.

Christy Wyatt, corporate vice president of software and services, Motorola Mobile Devices, commented, “We believe that consumer choice is one of the most critical components to ensuring a rich and seamless client experience. Motorola and Microsoft have enjoyed a longstanding collaboration and the addition of Bing services to our Android-based smartphones in China is another important step in empowering our end-users.”

Yusuf Mehdi, senior vice president of the Online Services Division at Microsoft, stated, “Mobile devices continue to be a critical place for customers to access location-based services such as local search and mapping. We are pleased to expand our long-standing relationship with Motorola to bring powerful Bing location-based services to Motorola’s innovative new mobile devices, providing consumers with more choice and flexibility in mobile search.”

This service may facilitate users to personalize their phones and pick their own Search provider. Motorola, with assistance from Microsoft, is said to be extending the facilities and services presently provided in the marketplace and unlocking the doors for augmented customization.

Search and Maps facilities via Microsoft may preliminarily be accessible by means of either pre-load or over-the-air updates for devices already in market in China, beginning in Q1 2010.
