More administrative controls to Google Apps for mobile

Google Mobile Controls

Last year in September, Google made a lot of things easier and simple by launching Google sync with push Gmail support and two-way sync for calendar and contacts for mobile devices. According to the official Google Mobile Blog, Google has now decided to launch new administrative controls that give mobile access to Google Apps.

Google Apps Premier and Education users can now manage their employees’ mobile devices right from the Google Apps administration control pane. The most recent step also shuns the need of deploying any additional software or managing enterprise mobile services.

These controls will enable new administrative controls for employees using iPhones, Window Mobile devices, and Nokia E series phones. Besides, the new mobile device management capabilities will allow administrators to remotely wipe all data from lost or stolen mobile devices, lock idle devices after a period of inactivity, and require a device password on each phone.

In addition, one can set minimum lengths for more secure password and require passwords to include letters, numbers and punctuation.

All these features will be accessible from the ‘Mobile’ tab under ‘Service Settings’ in the Google Apps control panel. Once a user starts syncing the phone with Google Apps, the domain administrator will be able to remotely wipe device date, right from the user settings page.
