In an interesting endeavor to meld the OS X Mountain Lion OS with a tablet, the Modbook Pro will see a US launch. This generously proportioned slate is being advertised as the ‘most powerful and largest-screen tablet computer.’

The front panel of the slab shows off a 13.3-inch display proffering images in resolutions of 1280 × 800p. Ticking away beneath its wide exterior is a 2.5GHz dual core Intel Core i5 processor configurable up to a 2.9GHz dual core Intel Core i7 unit. It works in tandem with an Intel Graphics 4000 chipset to render a smooth web browsing experience and to support gaming too.

“We can’t wait to get the Modbook Pro into the hands of the users we developed it for. In terms of its design and engineering, the Modbook Pro is not an incremental step but a leaps-and-bounds advance over the Modbook. Its sheer power makes it a lot of fun to use,” commented Andreas E. Haas, Modbook’s chief executive officer and chief technology officer.

Built with up to 16GB of RAM, some other hardware components included within the chassis are an 8X SuperDrive DVD burner, a 2.5-inch SATA drive and a lithium polymer battery. In terms of connectivity, the Modbook Pro facilitates Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 options. Additionally, an array of connection options for MagSafe, Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire 800, Thunderbolt, USB 3.0 and SDXC are embedded within the tablet.

Like we’ve already mentioned, the OS X Mountain Lion platform runs the complete show, while the slab is compatible with the Windows 7 software as well. Notably, it arrives with a Mac-based pen that can be glided all over the ForceGlass scratch-proof pen interface. In spite of the fact that the device houses some high-end hardware and software components, its body is deemed to be light and portable. The question revolves around whether this new tablet can give the Apple iPad a run for its money.

The exact Modbook Pro US price and release date have not received a mention as of now. It is expected to be made available sometime during fall.
