Mobile Phones Radiation affects Protein Expression and Human Skin

Mobile Phone Radiations affect Skin In recent times, mobile phones have been found to be dangerous for human health. Scientists have proved that such mobile device can harm humans in many ways. Here is one more study that shows how mobile phones can cause changes in protein expression and human skin.

Science Daily reported that a study conducted by Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) suggests that mobile phone radiations alter protein expression and activity in human endothelial cell line.

For examining the effects of mobile phone radiation, a small area of the forearm’s skin in 10 participants was exposed to GSM signal for one hour. Further skin biopsies from exposed and non-exposed skin area were collected from all the candidates. It was surprising to know that amongst 80 proteins, 8 proteins were statistically significantly affected.

“Mobile phone radiation has some biological effect. Even if the changes are small, they still exist”, explained Dariusz Leszczynski, Research Professor at STUK.

“The aim of this project was not detecting any possible health effects, but to find out whether living human skin responds to mobile phone radiation and whether proteomics approach is useful in sorting out this issue”, he added.

However, Leszczynski also agreed that the research is in early stages as of now. And an advanced study will be carried out involving 50-100 volunteers at STUK. This study is expected to begin by 2009.
