Silverlight Symbian-Beta The news has it that the Silverlight for Symbian-Beta is now available. By introducing Silverlight, Nokia plans to expand the reach of Silverlight to cellular devices.

Silverlight is a cross-browser and a cross-platform execution of the .NET framework used to create media experience and fully-loaded interactive applications for the web on desktops and mobile phones alike. Silverlight-Beta comes with an installer for the Symbian^1 devices and also tools to develop the Silverlight application on Nokia Symbian^1 (S60 5th Edition) mobile devices.

This release supposedly takes Nokia closer to bringing Silverlight to the Symbian platform which is claimed to hold single largest market share in the Smartphone market. Microsoft who has offered cross-platform work for Silverlight on the desktop will take take Silverlight cross-platform to the non-Microsoft mobile platform for the first time. This beta release is mainly focused at the developer community.
