Microsoft decides to drop Xbox One DRM restrictions

Gamers around the world will be delighted to know that the Microsoft Xbox One console’s DRM restrictions have been dropped with a view to ‘reshape the future’ of the device. The announcement has been made in light of the negative feedback that Microsoft received after it went public with features of the machine in question.

Users have been holding the Xbox One up to ridicule owing to its internet requirements and this has prompted the firm to introduce some changes. According to a blog post by Don Mattrick on the official website, the console need not be connected to the web when users are slipping discs into its dedicated tray. A one-time system set-up is all that it needs to allow people to play their favorite games.

Apart from this, the company has also revealed that the device can work perfectly fine without a 24-hour internet connection. And just like the 360, the upcoming console can be carried absolutely anywhere for some hardcore gaming. Those who were disappointed to know about the new policies regarding sharing, lending, reselling or trading disc-based games, will appreciate the fact that they can continue doing the same even when they are the owners of the brand new machine.

Retaining the current format of game sharing is likely to boost pre-orders which suffered due to the conglomerate’s new rules. Apart from buying discs, players will also be able to download games from Xbox Live which will continue to be accessible to them even in the offline mode, without any regional restrictions. It should be noted that the titles that are downloaded cannot be shared with anyone. In spite of believing that most consumers will turn to cloud storage to save and access content, Microsoft has decided to give them the option to choose between physical and digital means.

Hopefully, now the Xbox One will be in a better position to give tough competition to the Sony PS4. The former can be pre-ordered for a price of $499.99 or €499 in the US and Europe, respectively.
