Microsoft declares Windows Phone 7.8 release date to fall in early 2013

Microsoft has revealed a release time frame for the Windows Phone 7.8 update, parading some new features, for those WP7.5 users awaiting an upgrade to the aforementioned version. However, the news that it would more or less share its UI with that of the OS’ latest edition has been doing the rounds since June.

Included in the upgraded mobile OS are new lock screen features. For instance, there exists the ‘A1B2C3’ PIN/password challenge to avert unwanted device wipes, as well as the option to display the Bing Picture of the Day automatically.

A post on the official Windows Phone Blog explains that with up to 10 latest themes and accent colors brought under the scanner, customers can make their phones more personal. The post furthermore mentions that the company will be launching more devices running the OS at lower price points, so as to broaden its reach across the globe.

Microsoft moreover plans to roll out multiple apps for 7.5 and 7.8 users. Some of which are Words with Friends, a digital edition of the traditional scrabble, Draw Something, a drawing and guessing game, and many more.

The latest version of the Microsoft OS packs the customizable Start Screen from WP8 that allows users to re-size Live Tiles to small, medium or large as per their preference and convenience. To get a clearer picture of how this feature functions, take a look at the video attached above.

Additionally, the 7.8 edition holds in store attributes wherein users can pin their favorite apps and people to the screen, create avatars, message their Xbox friends and so on. By using Kid’s Corner, phones can be made accessible to children with apps well-suited for them, while simultaneously being able to guard vital info with a password.

The platform permits capturing pictures even when the handset is locked. Also, users can set their phones to automatically save every image and video to SkyDrive as soon as it is captured.

The exact date on which the Windows Phone 7.8 update will be launched is still a mystery. However, the Corporate Vice President of Microsoft says that once the software is tested and approved, it will be out in early 2013 for a host of devices.
