Microsoft and ARM sign deal for the ARM Architecture

Microsoft Arm logoAround last week, we heard about the Froyo-powered HTC Desire phone gearing up to take maximum advantage of the ARM architecture. Microsoft seems to have treaded a similar path by extending its partnership with ARM. The two companies have signed a new agreement for licensing the ARM Architecture. This deal will put Microsoft at the prominence of using the ARM technology that should offer multiple applications to users counting the formers Windows phone.

Many companies have previously enjoyed ARM-based products and are said to have delivered a high quality user experience. With this agreement, new high defined solutions will be introduced catering to the requirements of mobile devices, home electronics and industrial products under the ARM license processor IP.

“Microsoft is an important member of the ARM ecosystem, and has been for many years. With this architecture license, Microsoft will be at the forefront of applying and working with ARM technology in concert with a broad range of businesses addressing multiple application areas,” remarked Mike Muller, CTO ARM.

“ARM is an important partner for Microsoft and we deliver multiple operating systems on the company’s architecture, most notably Windows Embedded and Windows Phone. With closer access to the ARM technology we will be able to enhance our research and development activities for ARM-based products,” commented KD Hallman, general manager, Microsoft.

Microsoft is presently supporting an array of products catering to various computing requirements. With this deal, users might experience enhanced applications and services offered by the company in the future. The ARM architecture can be licensed by the present customers of ARM or utilized depending on the specific processor requirements.
