The last time TomTom had anything for iPhone users, the developers were offering enhancemnets for leveraging the iOS 4’s multi-tasking capabilities. The TomTom app for Apple’s iPhone has been updated to version 1.6 and now comes with the Map Share feature.

The new Map Share feature lets users make changes on the respective maps and even avail of updates from TomTom community members that have been confirmed by TomTom. Editing street names, blocking or unblocking streets right on the maps, setting driving directions and sharing changes with others is now possible through this app.

“We are pleased to bring TomTom’s exclusive Map Share technology already enjoyed by millions of TomTom GPS users everyday to our iPhone app. With the addition of Map Share, TomTom app users will get free, verified updates via Map Share anytime on top of the most accurate map available on-board,” stated Tom Murray, senior vice president of market development, TomTom.

Once set by the user, this iPhone app can regularly search for verified map updates like speed limit tweaks, turn restrictions or crossing changes. TomTom Traffic for the app delivers users real-time traffic updates and incident reports on the route ahead. An alternate and quicker route is provided whenever any delay is expected.

iPhone users can avail of TomTom Traffic through an in-app purchase for an extra $19.99 for a year of service. TomTom U.S.A. as also U.S. & Canada apps are presently available for $39.99 and $49.99, correspondingly. Continental and regional editions of the TomTom app are available today for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod touch owners.
