Line picks actress Katrina Kaif as brand ambassador, boasts about 10 milllion Indian users

After doing a victory lap in celebration of 10 million Indian users, Line announced actress Katrina Kaif as its brand ambassador at a press event today. The developing company behind this messenger service similar to WhatsApp also has several other applications in its kitty.

These include mobile tools for photography, kids, smartphone anti-virus protection, birthday/anniversary celebrations and so on. But the Japanese company’s most popular offering is the Line ‘communications app.’ It is available in other regions such as Hong Kong, Indonesia, Brazil and Malaysia, to name a few.

What’s Line all about?

Claiming to have more than 240 million customers from across the globe, Line lets users make free voice calls, video calls or even message friends who have signed up for it. Of course, this does not mean people won’t have to shell out any money at all. Data charges by the respective telecom operator will apply.

Line can be grabbed through Google Play, the Windows Phone marketplace and iTunes. The Android version had been updated with a Snap Movie feature which permits people to add background music to short video clips before sharing them with friends.

Both iOS and Android editions have been tweaked so that users can now send each other voice messages up to 30 minutes long. Also, a much needed change which blocks users from getting messages sent by strangers has been introduced apart from the usual bug fixes.
