LG Optimus G Pro headed to S Korea with 5.5-inch display

Armed with a massive 5.5-inch display, the LG Optimus G Pro has been unveiled by the South Korean electronics brand, albeit, only for a release in the said nation. However, we have no reason to believe that this exclusivity shall remain permanent, as the phone had earlier also been announced for Japan. Strangely enough, even though the Japanese version bears a smaller 5-inch screen, it has been affixed with the same moniker and similar specifications.

The attributes of the Optimus G Pro which were leaked a few days back have turned out to be spot on, it seems. That it will flaunt a 5.5-inch display has been confirmed by its maker, but a slight edge over the Note 2 (which too holds a same-sized screen) is gained by it due to the fact that it features full HD 1080p resolution. The company issued a press release earlier today which was roughly translated by Phandroid to disclose crucial details about the newest phablet in the lot.

It will be seen sporting a curved glass surface, granting it a ‘2.5D’ effect, as company likes to put it. Such a screen was last seen on the Nexus 4 handset which is available in the market right now, and is manufactured by the same OEM. That’s not all; another similarity with the said device has been spotted on the new smartphone. Even the digital cube pattern on the back of it is an allusion to the design of the Nexus 4. These two aspects aren’t part of the Japanese variant however.

Past reports have already given us a fair idea of what the handset carries inside it. A quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.7GHz is held by it, along with 2GB of RAM, to assist it in its operations. Keeping with the norm of new-age devices, a 13MP camera has been granted to the handset. Moreover, 32GB worth of built-in memory has also been revealed to form part of it. And if that’s not enough, the phone will kick in a microSD card slot as well.

The LG Optimus G Pro hasn’t been slapped with a release date or price as yet. It is expected to make its debut at the MWC event in Barcelona later this month.
