The LG Connect 4G MetroPCS is apparently the first smartphone in the carrier’s lineup to launch with access to the VoLTE service. What’s more, the provider plans to increase its current portfolio by introducing new phones that support this 4G LTE feature, over the coming weeks.

Running through a few specs of the handset – it flaunts a 4-inch 480 x 840p capacitive multi-touch Nova LCD layered with Corning Gorilla Glass. Users can take advantage of the 5MP AF camera that’s fitted to the back panel for capturing images and recording 720p HD videos. On the entertainment front, there is the Dolby Mobile feature that should provide rich audio quality.

Roger Linquist, chairman and chief executive officer of MetroPCS, remarked, “The initial move to LTE and this move to VoLTE allow us to achieve significant spectral efficiencies and will increase network capacity so that we can enhance the 4G LTE experience that our customers have today at a tremendous value. VoLTE also provides a foundational capability for future Rich Communication Services (RCS), which we plan to launch later this year.”

The company has also thrown in the Rhapsody Unlimited Music service that can be employed to stream the desired tracks. Riding on the Gingerbread platform, the handset gains steam from a 1.2GHz dual core processor. Under the hood, a 1500mAh battery capable of delivering 4.5 hours of talktime, juices up the device.

The LG Connect 4G MetroPCS price stands at $249 after a $50 mail-in rebate. Potential buyers can pick up the handset via the carrier’s online store and select retail outlets in the US.
