LG Cloud service beta version announced for mobile and other devices

LG Cloud service

Starting tomorrow, the beta version of the LG Cloud service will be offered for the Android mobile platform as well as other screens that include PCs and TVs. Subscribers should be able to manage digital content on Cinema 3DTVs as well, with a little assistance of a separate set-top box.

In order to use the cloud storage service, users are required to install the LG Cloud app from the Google Play Store or the LG SmartWorld app store from their Android smartphones, LG SmartWorld store from their LG Smart TVs or the LG Cloud website through their PC systems. Needless to say, the data uploaded to the cloud can be instantly accessed through all of the aforementioned platforms.

“Most companies today only see the cloud as a storage device or in the case of YouTube or Flickr, only for one type of content. LG makes the devices that millions of people watch content on so we can set a new yardstick for ease of use by setting up our own cloud service. Tomorrow’s consumers don’t want to go to one cloud for music, another cloud for video, another location for photos and yet another cloud for their office files. In the end, our solution is about making life more convenient,” expressed Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company.

The instant access to the uploaded data can be attributed to the LG Real-time Streaming Transcoding technology that carries out the conversion on the server as opposed to devices. Additionally, the conversion occurs in the background without any user involvement. The service is compatible with 3D content too.

The beta version of the LG Cloud service will be made available starting May 1.
