Lenovo ThinkServer TS140, ThinkServer RD450 unveiled in India

The Lenovo ThinkServer TS140 and ThinkServer RD450 have been launched in India, with the company hoping its revenue from the government sector will rise to 20 – 25% through projects like Digital India. The China-based brand aims to become the market leader in enterprise solutions by 2020.

Both the Lenovo ThinkServer TS140 and ThinkServer RD450 are entry-level offerings. The former is a tower server and the latter a 2U rack one. While the company hasn’t revealed the country-specific price details for the products yet, the first costs $674.10 (roughly Rs 45600) and the second retails for $1601.10 (approx Rs 108358).

The two are the first ThinkServer products launched in India. To recall, Lenovo took over IBM’s international x86 server business back in 2014 for $2.1 billion. As per Siddhesh Naik, the company’s Director of Enterprise Business Group, the manufacturer is targeting service providers and small local businesses which want to build its first DIY server cluster.

Coming to its specs, the ThinkServer TS140 is powered by an Intel Xeon E3-1200 v3 series processor, which supposedly offers a 15% rise in performance over the server’s predecessors. It’s been equipped with error correcting code (ECC) memory and RAID 5 capability to keep data safe. The device apparently outputs only 26 decibels of noise, 40% quieter than previous models.

The ThinkServer RD450 offers enterprises up to 512GB of storage through 16 slots. It comes with a maximum of 2 Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 Series CPUs and uses DDR4 memory to provide a 50% rise in performance and power savings. As per PTI, Lenovo currently gets around 45% of its revenues from the enterprises segment in India and 12 – 13% from the government.

Lenovo says the administration has started several initiatives which cover areas like e-Governance and surveillance. Naik asserts the brand is a part of 3 pilot projects for the latter sector but did not disclose the names of the cities where the programs were taking place.
