Lava Iris 454 announced as part of ‘Blockbuster Phoneday’

With the Lava Iris 454 having been launched as part of the Blockbuster Phoneday unpacking event, it’s Christmas every week for fans of the company. Unlike what we had assumed earlier, it’s not the 502 that the manufacturer had left out of its press announcements.

The device is the first of many more to come if the party goes on as expected. It’s been two days since the company teased potential customers with a ‘What does a Friday mean to you?’ tweet. Subsequent tweets went on to reveal that one new device launch would be lined up for every Friday of the week. Doing the math, that adds up to four fresh gadgets each month until the manufacturer puts the brakes on this.

As for the latest offering, the smartphone is an Android one and it packs in version 4.0.4 of ICS. Trying to stay up to speed with the current trend of large displays on handsets, the manufacturer has pasted a 4.5-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen on the front side. But then again, we’re not saying we’ve got all the features of the phone perfectly correct.

For one, the Overview section indicates that the device has a 5MP camera and 5-inch display. It actually appears that potential users will be getting an 8MP lens with LED flash. The highlight of the handset is its HDMI port which means users will be able to hook it up to a TV and play games or reel out videos on a large screen.

Specs

The phone is of the dual SIM dual standby sort and can take a WCDMA and GSM card. Lastly, it sports a 1GHz processor which may be a dual core or single core one, something we’ll be able to tell for sure once the company makes up its mind about this particular spec.

Here’s a quick peek at the specifications:

– Display: WVGA capacitive touchscreen, 4.5 or 5 inches, 540 x 960p resolution
– Platform: Android 4.0.4
– Processor: 1GHz
– Memory: 512MB RAM, 4GB ROM, up to 32GB expandable
– Camera: 8MP main with LED flash, VGA front sensor
– Battery: 1650mAh Li-ion

Rear Side

We will be updating this post with the confirmed specs and price of the Lava Iris 454 once the company stops being confused about the exact information on this front.

UPDATE: Those who want to lay hands on this baby will have to shell out Rs. 8,499. A 1GHz dual core chip, an 8MP camera and a 4.5-inch screen have been confirmed.
