Today’s Google Doodle goes disco dancing for New Year’s Eve 2013

Google is rounding off its 2013 doodles with a special dancing one for New Year’s Eve. It marks the very last doodle for this year, of course and has the numbers 2, 0, 1 and 3 shaking it on the disco floor as 4 looks on, waiting for its turn.

This 2013 New Year’s Eve Google doodle is not a still photo like any of the three the company put out as the Happy Holidays 2013 series. It’s not like the amazingly cool and playable tribute payed to Dr. Who on November 23rd this year either. That marked the 50th anniversary of the hit BBC sci-fi series.

December 31 2013 Google Doodle

The video posted below gives you a sneak peak of the fun you missed in case you didn’t play it. Even Star Trek got its own interactive doodle to celebrate the 46th anniversary of its first broadcast, but that was on September 8th, 2012. Now today’s New Year’s Eve design may move, but is certainly not playable. That’s because it’s a GIF image.

When you roll your cursor over it, you’ll be greeted with a Happy New Year. Below this lively picture are the words ‘What did the world search for this year? Remember the moments of 2013.’ The attached link leads to the Google Zeitgeist page which summarizes what people were talking about or looking for with search trends for the year (almost) gone by.

We don’t know about you, but we would have liked a playable doodle to finish off this year’s collection. Just look up Wikipedia for December 31 and you’ll see that Google could have made a game out of any of several events that happened on this day. Our vote was on a game involving bricking windows.
