The eReading market just expanded with the addition of the new Kyobo eReader that was recently released by Qualcomm and Korean bookseller, Kyobo Book Centre. Though plenty of eReaders have been infiltrating the market lately, one with mirasol display technology is not something we’ve bumped into yet.

The newest eReading device is embedded with a 5.7-inch XGA 1024 x 768p mirasol display featuring a screen resolution of 223ppi. Operating on Android 2.3, it offers users EBS-exclusive video lecture content and possesses English language text-to-speech capabilities. Readers can apparently use this device for a rather long time under typical usage and read clearly on the touchscreen even in bright sunlight sans any glare.

Clarence Chui, senior vice president and general manager of Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, stated, “Kyobo is a recognized content leader focused on bringing unique and innovative experiences to its customers. Kyobo’s customers will be the first to enjoy the exceptional color e-reader experience and long battery life that only mirasol displays can provide.”

Running on a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S2 class processor, this tablet allows readers to access the expansive Kyobo eBook library comprising more than 90,000 books. Users are enabled to search for words, sentences and phrases with the Diotek dictionary application as well as share content on Korean social networking services.

The Kyobo eReader comes for a price of $310 and is now available at bookstore locations across South Korea. It can also be purchased by members of the Kyobo Platinum Book Club at a discounted price of $265.
