Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD price slashed in UK, revised rates up on Carphone Warehouse

The price for both, the 7-inch Amazon Kindle Fire and the HD variant has undergone a reduction in the UK, with Carphone Warehouse now offering the former for £89. The latter device carries a tag of £139 for the 16GB version and the 32GB one can be obtained for £195.

Earlier the Kindle Fire was available for £129 and the HD device was attainable for a starting amount of £159, as reported by Android Central. The success of the more budget-friendly tablet last year seemed to have bewildered the rest of the tablet market. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether this latest ploy will entice buyers, considering the plethora of similar range slabs that are available in stores.

Kindle Fire

The cheaper tablet consists of a 7-inch display that is bounded in a form factor which measures 189mm x 120mm x 11.5mm and weighs 400 grams. The manufacturer asserts that the charge would last as long as 9 hours on Wi-Fi. Although the more expensive one encloses a touchscreen of the same width, it displays visuals in high definition. It possesses dimensions of 193mm x 137mm x 10.3mm and tips the scales at 395 grams. The battery is said to be keep the slate alive for over 11 hours.

The HD tablet presents users with the option of choosing between 16GB and 32GB of flash memory and also has a webcam perched on the front panel. The other slate however is granted with 8GB of storage and has not been provided with a camera. Both devices run on 1.2GHz dual core OMAP processors, albeit different versions.

What sets these slates apart from their competitors would have be to the existence of the company’s FreeTime service which allows parents to control their children’s use of the tablets. They can create separate profiles for the kids and even go to the extent of selecting what books, apps and games they should be permitted to utilize. The tool also lets folks set a time limit for usage of the slab.

The Amazon Kindle Fire standard and HD version are available in the US for $159 and $199, respectively.
