Kindle For Android

The Kindle app for Android rumor has been given the official nod at last. With Kindle reaching users through iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, PC, Mac and BlackBerry, an application for Android seems to have been expected all along. It looks like the Kindle app for Android will be out sometime this summer according to an official announcement made by Amazon.

There is no need for a Kindle reader in order to access the virtual book store, while those who use a Kindle may still get to their Kindle books via their Android-run handsets. Whispersync technology automatically synchronizes the last page perused and annotations between Kindle-compatible devices. Users can read content in portrait or landscape mode, tap on any side of the screen or flick to turn pages.

The application also allows users to add bookmarks, change text size and view annotations created on a Kindle or Kindle-enabled device. Books may be purchased through an Android handset from the Kindle library that stocks over 5,00,000 books including New York Times bestsellers. The last mentioned as well as new releases are tagged at prices starting from $9.99. Kindle newspapers, magazines and blogs are not available for Android as yet.

The Kindle app works with Android 1.6 or later versions of the mobile OS and calls for an SD card. It will be out as a free application this summer.
