Is the Modu Phone finally ready for the market?

Modu Cellphone Jacket

Modu modular cellphone jacket system is rumored to be ready for production, says Gizmodo.

Reportedly, Modu CEO Dov Moran announced that the modular handset is scheduled for launch in Southeast Asia in Q2. Furthermore, apparently around 200 Modu employees have been asked to swap their Nokia handsets for Modu ones.

Modu has had many problems with different operators. However, it has supposedly finally decided to launch the device with several basic jackets with Israeli operator Cellcom, this month .

The Modu concept is very simple. Several Modu jackets are built around a basic Modu cellphone. These jackets perform various tasks such as an ‘mp3 jacket’ will enable users to listen to music, a color palette will provide an added splash of color, a ‘GPS jacket’ will enable users to navigate through different locations.

This phone is apparently only for Southeast Asia, Russia and a few other locations. It is not for customers in the US, at least for now. There is no mention of specific release date or pricing.
