iPhone 4S pre-order have skirted over the one million mark within 24 hours of its unveiling, according to Apple. It has exceeded the record of the iPhone 4 which had registered about 6,00,000 pre-orders on the first day.

The iPhone 4S is the most advanced smartphone to come from Apple’s stable till date, or that’s what the company claims. It runs on the dual-core A5 processor for delivering speedier performance and richer graphics. Slated to debut this week, the phone is embedded with an 8MP camera featuring a custom lens, larger aperture, advanced hybrid infrared filter and optics along with increased sensitivity and a face detection feature.

“We are blown away with the incredible customer response to iPhone 4S. The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched and we are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do,” stated Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

When fans go in for an iPhone 4S pre-order, there’s the option to pick it up in white or black shades. It will be available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities. Operating on iOS 5, the highlight of this Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled iPhone is Siri, a software that lets users execute various functions by simply talking to the handset.

The smartphone is scheduled to start retailing in 22 more countries by the end of October. These include Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Those residing in USA, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the UK who have registered for an iPhone 4S pre-order can expect to welcome it on October 14.
