Intel searching for ideas on wearable tech, $500,000 grand prize announced

Intel wants to know if you have any ideas on wearable technology and has thrown open a Make it Wearable contest offering up to $500,000 to those who come up with the best product concepts. Intel is presently accepting submissions from people aiming for one of the five $5,000 prizes which will be given away to Dream It Visionary Track winners. Registrations for the Build It Development Track with $500,000 as the grand prize, will be thrown open soon enough.

Wearable technology is a booming market and it was about time that the world’s most well known chip maker joined the fray. Intel is seeking ideas on gadgets that can be worn by people, though this is not the sole criterion on which submissions will be judged. The company will be looking at how creative the proposed device is and at its ability to make a difference in the world in a positive way.

Submissions can be in the form of ideas on clothing, accessories or small devices which integrate computer and electronic technologies. You don’t have to actually build the thingummy in question if you’re after the $50000 catch, but just submit a 1-minute video describing a wearable, or ten. For those who are going for the $500,000 prize, you will have to send in your proposal along with a video pitching the concept.

The entries will be judged based on how doable they are as well as their market potential. As the name suggests, the Build It Development Track is a program intended to support creators through the entire process of making their product idea a reality and learning to market it. Apart from $500,000 grand prize, three finalists also stand the chance of winning $50,000 and mentorship too.
