Instagram axes support for third-party Windows Phone apps

It looks like Instagram is hunting down uploads from any third-party Windows Phone app, only to delete them within a matter of few seconds. And Instance which is one such service, seems to have fallen prey to this development. An Instagram spokesperson validated the alterations made to the service’s API, claiming it as a measure to prevent spam and future attacks.

Instance not only permits sharing images, commenting on others’ photos and liking them too, but also offers filters which are available on the original utility for Android and iOS. Daniel Gary who is the mastermind behind the third-party app has spoken on the topic, stating that they have carried out tests to confirm that pictures get uploaded to Instagram through the unofficial service. However, the photos vanish after a while and are not accessible anymore.

Speaking to The Verge, Gary hasn’t accused the company for shunning his app, but is currently caught up in pondering over a fix for the issue, bearing in mind that this could have affected a number of Windows Phone users. And judging by the comments on his Twitter post, we don’t doubt this.

The representative on the other hand, has commented that every unofficial service will be affected, while giving the example of 6tagram. The app which is in the beta phase at the moment, also appears to be witnessing similar troubles.

The report also notes that the API has been updated once again and users are only sanctioned to upload photos which are still hidden from others on Instagram.
