Indian Railways’ schedules now available on Google Maps Transit

Google Maps has been updated so that it currently shows the Indian Railways schedules for 12000 trains in 8 cities across India. The feature is available as part of Google Maps Transit and should come in very handy for those who use public modes of transport or simply have to be at a station to pick up friends or family.

In addition to adding information about the Indian Railways, Google Transit now also covers bus and metro routes in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Chennai. The service includes walking directions to bus stops, train platforms and metro stations. Google Maps provides public transportation for 2800 cities across the world.

To use Google Transit, you can simply type the name of your destination point in the search bar in Google Maps. Clicking on Get Directions and then the Public Transit option will display all the available modes of transport such as bus, train and metro. You will also be able to find out how you can get to the concerned stop by walking there or hopping into a vehicle.

Google will even tell you how much time it will take you to reach the place you’re headed towards so that you can plan your journey carefully. In case you’d like to arrange your trip in a way which lets you spend as less time on the road as possible, you can keep entering different timings into the Depart at or Arrive by box and check for the perfect moment to start prepping.

Google Maps Transit is available for Android, iOS and desktop users for free. The company has included Hindi support for those who have selected the option in the ‘Language and input’ menu from their smartphone’s Settings.
