IBM to support Lotus Notes to Nokia S-60 based mobile phone

IBM logo, Nokia Phone Nokia collaborates with IBM to offer Lotus Notes for Nokia S-60 based devices. The users of S-60 based devices can connect to corporate email accounts through Lotus Domino Server add-on feature Notes Traveler. The users will get a real time experience to access emails, calendar, address book and other data.

It will enable Nokia to enhance its enterprise as IBM will offer Lotus Notes to nearly 80 million people. It’s a server platform application that provides real time access. IBM’s institute for Business Value reported that the usage of cell phone today, is more than the usage of land-line telephone. IBM predicts that there will be one billion users who will prefer to access mobile web by 2011.

“We see a wide distribution of Nokia devices within our customer base. I was at a user function in Germany about ten days ago and gave a preview of this announcement to a set of our customers, and got spontaneous applause,” stated by Kevin Cavanaugh, vice president of IBM Lotus Software.

“This collaboration means nearly 90% of business e-mail can be mobilized with Nokia devices, without needing to purchase additional servers, middleware, or licenses. With the presence, position and technology that IBM have in the corporate e-mail market, they are an essential partner for us in enterprise,” comments Soren Petersen, Nokia’s senior VP, in a statement. “People need to be connected to their e-mail, information, and network when they are out of the office and that has to be done conveniently and on their terms.”

The software will let the users to experience a real time web application. This new software introduced by IBM will be available by next month that will lead to a change in the way of using mobile web applications.
