Google Sites Mobile

Google does seem to throw in innovative things to do up on the web ever so often. With Google Sites having intrigued quite a few since launch, the company has now added automatic mobile rendering for sites using the service via iOS 3.0+ and Android 2.2+ phones.

The update will further include a mobile version of the Google Sites lists too. Users gain the advantage of having sites automatically fitted for mobile phones, taking care of access-on-the-move needs. Adjustments will include appropriate alignment of the header layout and the top bar.

The width of sites is also going to be fitted as per the width of the device on which they will be accessed. Easy management of sidebars, horizontal navigation and dropdown links are some of the other perks a single change in the setting within the site is going to offer users.

The official Google Docs blog goes on to mention the inclusion of a preview option so that users know beforehand what their website will look like. What’s more, previewing of web pages is extended to the PC as well from where users get to see the changes as a mobile viewer.

Some other attributes included with this update are the ability to hide links in the site’s footer saving on vertical space on the device’s display and easy searching via a mobile phone. The latter feature is made effortless with access to mobile versions of not just site lists but also the sites search and browse sites categories.

The automatic mobile rendering function for Google Sites simply needs users to hit up the ‘General’ settings under ‘More actions > Manage site’ followed by a click on ‘Automatically adjust site for mobile phones’.
