Google Maps for Android and iOS to display relevant ads in search

Google Maps for Android and iOS will display ads depending on what users type into the search tool box, the search engine leader has said. Through a blog post, Google recently announced that ‘relevant’ advertisements will soon be seen at the bottom of the navigation service’s interface and this development it seems, has taken place in the interest of advertisers as well as users.

For instance, if a person wishes to search for car rentals, the app will suggest applicable places in the vicinity. The banner towards the bottom of the mobile interface bears a title, a short description with not more than 15 characters and a link to acquire directions, while also displaying a tiny purple box with ‘Ad’ scribbled on it. Interested parties can either swipe or tap on it to dig deeper.

Google Maps follows the cost-per-click policy, but it will not charge advertisers more than two paid clicks every time an ad is displayed. They will have to pay for actions such as clicking on the initial get location option, calling the store and punching on the banner’s headline.

In the event that users choose to cache the information for later, tell a friend about the place or kick start navigation, these can all be done for free. While the commercials appear on the bottom half of a smartphone, the layout differs for tablets and the website. A dropdown menu will list out the details when hunting for something specific.

The blog post pinpoints that the Google Maps website version will only support English, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Krio, Lithuanian, Korean and Mongolian, whereas the mobile app for Android and iOS will flaunt ads in all languages outlined on the Play store and iTunes.
