Google Maps for Android introduces indoor mapping to France

The indoor maps feature seen on Google Maps for Android has been rolled out for users in France. The upgraded application now includes well known locations in the country covering retailers, malls, museums, airports and more.

The ‘My Location’ trait that works when inside a particular venue will show precisely if a required shop is nearby. Other details also clued in by the utility in question include those pertaining to a users’ closeness to an elevator or the way to the restroom or the ATM.

“Today, we’re expanding the coverage of this indoor maps feature to include popular French venues, making the maps of France more comprehensive, accurate and usable for both locals and travelers alike. Now, even if you’re visiting one of these large, well-trafficked places for the first time, you can navigate your way around like a pro,” states a post on the official Google Lat Long blog.

Mountain View has teamed up with more than 50 major French venues so that the corresponding indoor plans could be part of the Maps experience. The company has even joined hands with super markets such as Carrefour to help shoppers locate food items quickly without wasting too much time. The indoor floors attribute was introduced as part of this location-based application a while ago and it is slowly progressing to a number of nations across the globe.
