Google has been dishing out Google Maps 4.0 for mobile devices at a fast pace for quite some time now. According to the Official Google Mobile Blog, the latest version of Google Maps 4.0 has been brought out for BlackBerry smartphones. This version allows users to find places quickly, add posts pertaining to that place via Google Buzz and many innovative features.
BlackBerry users can find places on the Google Maps 4.0 by using the ‘search by voice’ option. Users simply need to press and hold the ‘green call’ button on their device and speak out the search item, following which they can easily check the search results. Apart from searching by name, users can search by address as well. The Maps support multiple languages that include English and Mandarin Chinese accents.
Another noted feature of the Maps 4.0 is the integration of Google Buzz on the BlackBerry handset for the first time. Google Buzz allows users to post comments on what’s happening around them or merely browse through others posts. The Buzz layer in Google Maps 4.0 can be accessed to share pictures, news, etc with friends and family. To use this feature, users need to select layers from the main menu to either reply to a Buzz or post a new one.
The Google Maps 4.0 in BlackBerry allow the user to personalize their search. This implies that if the user has already searched for a particular place, they can re-search for it by typing the first three letters of the place, and Maps directs them to that place. Moreover, users can star repetitive searches, so as locate them easily the next time.
Besides the above listed functions, Google Maps 4.0 also features Labs with Scale Bar or Terrain layer for hiking and trekking fanatics. Users can use maps from a business point of view as well. They can check on nearby businesses from a particular address or location by pointing to the place in the map. Incase of any problems, users can report them with the map data or business listing.
To install the latest version of Google Maps 4.0, users can log on to m.google.com/maps via BlackBerry Internet browser. The site provides update for BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrators and users, including support for BlackBerry OS 5.0 phones.
