Gionee Elife S5.5 is so thin, it gives iPhone 5S a complex

The anemically thin Gionee Elife S5.5 just beat the Vivo X3 to hold the record for the skinniest smartphone in the world. While not exactly thin enough to cut anything, this Gionee Elife phone is just 5.5mm deep and hence the 5.5 in its name. As for the X3, it’s currently exiting the podium in shame.

On the other side, Apple which has always always been proud of its devices’ aesthetic qualities, is trying to beat the record so that the next iPhone is thinner than a scratch. To put things into perspective, Engadget notes the size of the iPhone 5S which is an indecent 7.6mm thick.

The Gionee handset runs on a forked version of Android called the Amigo OS. It has largish 5-inch display above which a camera of 5MP is placed. Not into selfies all that much? There’s a 13MP lens on the back panel. A quad core 1.7GHz processor can be found at the heart of the device, working together with 2GB of RAM.

But it’s not merely the internals that count, right? The handset is painted in white with an elegant gold line running all around its frame. The 3G version of the phone is up for pre-order in China. An LTE variant will also be coming in June this year.
