Garmin-Asus to modify co-branded business model for mobile phones

Garmin-Asus Logo Garmin-Asus was last spotted uncovering its remarkable A10 Android navigation smartphone. Garmin and Asus have now revealed a strategic decision to modify their existing co-branded business model for various location-centric handsets.

These companies share that they will no more unleash new co-branded phones however will carry on selling and lending support to devices which have already been unfurled in the market. Asus will develop Asus-branded handsets and some of them will come equipped with Garmin navigation and Location Based Service apps.

Garmin will augment its mobile phone application development and is anticipated to offer navigation and other applications through specific consumer application stores. Garmin-Asus has rolled out six attractive devices since its strategic alliance in February 2009.

Garmin-Asus smartphone owners may still sound relieved since they will continue receiving product support, software updates and downloads from either Garmin or Asus accordingly.

Other details about Asus and Garmin’s future product roadmaps will be discussed during their independent third quarter earnings meetings on October 28 and November 3, 2010 respectively.
