Few weeks back we had reported that the Garmin-Asus nuvifone being rumored to release in June. Once again the news about this highly anticipated smartphone has hit the rumor mill. According to SlashGear, the company is now rumored to bring this smartphone in the market in the second half of 2009.

The nuvifone G60 which was announced way back in January 2008 is reported to be in the certification testing process. It is also speculated that the upcoming Garmin-Asus nuvifone M20 running on Windows Mobile 6.1 OS will also be delayed.

“Smartphones are complicated and bringing one to market that’s built totally from the ground up on a custom Linux platform is not an easy task” comments Cliff Pemble, president and COO, Garmin.

Reportedly, the G60 smartphone which is based on Linux operating system will feature a navigation screen which is found on most nuvi devices. Apparently, this smartphone will support Wi-Fi and HSPA 3G network and will also include GPS capabilities.

Additionally, it is believed that the phone will focus on a social networking component called Ciao! This is speculated to link mapping information from various social networks.

Well, after so many G60 rumors surfacing the Internet, we hope that the smartphone arrives this year.
