As per Nielsen research, games seem to continue their reign as the most popular category of mobile phone applications in the US. The research took into account those people who had downloaded any app in the past thirty days and found out that ninety three percent of them were ready to pay for games they played.

This was followed by eighty seven percent willing to pay for entertainment and apparently only seventy six percent would pay for news category apps. As for smartphone users who have played mobile games in the past thirty days, the research discovered that those with Windows 7 phones, iPhones or Android phones are most likely to download the games they played. On the other hand, Blackberry and feature phone users tend to play pre-loaded games.

Average mobile gamers reportedly played about 7.8 hours a month, while those possessing iPhones played around 14.7 hours per month and Android users played about 9.3 hours a month.

The games category with sixty four percent usage was the most used application category. It was followed closely by weather and social networking sites at sixty and fifty six percent respectively.
