Foursquare out for S40 Nokia phones

Foursquare S40 The popular location-based service dubbed Foursquare which makes exploring places a fun experience was earlier limited to Nokia’s Symbian S60 devices. In a recent development, Nokia Beta Labs has made the Foursquare application available for S40 phone users.

Foursquare for S40 is a Java-based application which works across most S40 Nokia devices, enabling users to share their location using the built-in GPS. According to a post on the official Nokia Conversations blog, the estimated location of S40 handset owners without built-in GPS will be calculated using cell-id info from the network.

By accessing the service’s map, anyone can fine tune their location information. Users can keep friends and family in the loop by adding location updates to their Facebook and Twitter statuses. Moreover, certain restaurants, bars and theaters offer rewards like free pizza or coffee to those who check-in to the venue while gathering virtual badges and points.

The app includes features such as the ability to search places, add places, check-in and venueless check-in for unknown places. Additionally, users can view recent check-ins from their friends and manage friend requests. The service is said to have been tested on the Nokia C3-00, C3-01, 5310, 6600 Fold, 7230 and X3-02.
