Foursquare for Android revamps its notification system with new tray

Foursquare For Android

To go beyond the location-oriented check-in mania, Foursquare has upgraded its system with a new notification tray for Android users. The social networking site wants to let its users reap benefits of the other features it possesses, such as comments, mayorship changes and To-Dos.

The tray which gives users information regarding what their friends are up to, in a chronological manner, is somewhat similar to the Facebook notifications technique. Situated on the top right side of the page, it claims to never let users miss out on the happenings in their friends’ lives. It will keep users informed about happenings like when a friend comments on one of the user’s check-ins or a friend acts on one of the Tips left by the user.

According to the Foursquare blog, it also keeps the user posted regarding the latest comments on any picture that the user has commented on previously. Whether someone is overthrown from the position of mayor or when the user and one of their friends have the same location on the To-Do list, the tray keeps users informed about all of them. There is also a new mute button so that users can turn off notifications for an hour or till the next day.

This updated Foursquare for Android phones running on 1.6 and above, can be downloaded from the Android market. It is also available on the Foursquare website and would be soon launching on BlackBerry phones and the iPhone.
