Facebook Home witnesses 500K downloads within a month

Less than a month old, Facebook Home is barging into phones at a startling speed. Ever wondered what 500,000 people living under a single roof would look like? Well, the company has managed to welcome that many users and more, into its abode.

That’s right. April 18 had marked the arrival of the utility into Google Play for Android handsets apart from the HTC First and ever since, the app has breached the 500,000 benchmark. At present, it has been made available for a number of smartphones including the One X and One X+ as well as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and S3.

By installing the app, users basically give it the power to dominate a major portion of their handsets and their lives. The home screen will become the hub of all updates received on the SNS owing to Cover Feeds which spills a live stream of posts, pictures and more, right from the moment the phone is switched on.

In spite of already offering the standalone messenger, the company has introduced the Chat Heads feature through this utility. Acting as a platform for online conversations, this attribute can be accessed while simultaneously employing other apps. Every notification will find its way onto the home screen and in order to view it, all users will have to do is tap it once.

Although the idea of the SNS-subjugated phone has clearly managed to garner a lot of attention, it still has us wondering that how many users will actually be involved in the long run. It is true that crossing a 500k milestone is no joke. But the app’s average rating stands to be quite poor at 2.2 stars, with over 5,800 people considering it worthy enough of not more than 1 star. For a better understanding of what the utility is capable of, take a look at the video embedded below.

In addition to its quite apparent attempt to enjoy a chunk of the Android market, the maker has plans of extending Facebook Home to other platforms as well. The only reason we say this is because the company recently rolled out an update for iPhone and iPad users presenting them with certain functionalities from the app in question, one of which is Chat Heads. So in case the service itself strikes iOS and Windows devices, rest assured we’ll be there to report it.
