Facebook comments to support static pictures

Facebook agrees with whoever thinks that a picture is worth a thousand words and Zuckerberg’s team has put this belief into action by planning to permit uploading images in the comment section pretty soon. So this means, no more links directing people to the image’s original page. Witnessing its recent developments, it has become apparent that Facebook is definitely working towards becoming more user-friendly by the day, at least on the social network front if not devices.

Bob Baldwin, an Engineer at the Menlo Park-based company stated, ‘A photo helps me tell a story much better than words alone.’ So with a view to make conversations more attractive as well as expressive, he spoke of developing this feature at hackathon along with Eric Faller, Zizhuang Yang, Ashwin Bharambe and a bunch of other colleagues.

Bob’s post was met with an astounding response as most users gave kudos to this step taken by the conglomerate. Those keen on trying out the new feature can hop to Baldwin’s timeline and leave a comment adorned with an image. As for a public roll out, it is uncertain as to when pictures will be seen pinned to the comment area on everyday users’ pages.

When asked whether this attribute supports GIFs, Baldwin replied saying ‘one step at a time’, so sadly no animated pictures for now. But it will take static JPEG and PNG files. There will be no restrictions based on geographical boundaries as Baldwin claimed that the service will be pushed forth to all markets shortly.

Support For Pictures

Commenting on the post that broke this news, Ashwin Bharambe informed that Chrome users will be able to copy the image directly from the clipboard and paste in right in comments. First the inclusion of ‘Reply’, then the addition of hashtags and now support for photos in the comment area, we wonder what more does Facebook have in store.
