Facebook can’t tell difference between a bigoted slur and faggots, bans ‘homophobic’ man

Facebook is apparently finding it hard to tell the difference between a gay slur and the word ‘faggots.’ It’s been reported that the social network imposed a ban of 12 hours on a man who claimed to like faggots. A bit of confusion from across the pond due to cultural differences? It certainly looks like it.

Here’s the thing – faggots may be a word that invites appalled glances when said aloud since it’s a derogatory term for a gay man. But it’s also the name of a traditional dish in the UK. It is typically cooked using offal (variety meats such as pig heart or liver) and other animal chunks which wouldn’t normally make it to the center of your dinner table.

Facebook Status Update

MailOnline says that Facebook user, Robert Wilkes, was kicked off the social network for 12 hours after he posted about his fondness for the dish. An Eileen Perrins is also reported to have been banned from the website for the same amount of time after she uploaded a picture of it. We’re assuming Perrins labeled it using the word ‘faggots’ since it’s unlikely that a photo of food could have been mistaken as offensive.

You know what’s more offensive to a lot of members? Facebook’s muddling policies on what content can or cannot go up on the site. You won’t catch photographs of mothers nursing their babies on it. But if you’re more into videos of people being beheaded, it’s your lucky day. Oddee has several images that the company was spotted banning in the past and some of them will have you perplexed.

Forget about inappropriate pictures, Facebook has some really dodgy pages to worry about. We tried getting an obviously softcore pRon page banned from the website and guess what? The social network got back to us saying it’s all right. Go figure.
