Coming up with new innovations and developments through partnerships is becoming a rampant trend these days and the latest collaboration is the recent one between Corning and Samsung Mobile Display. This joint venture would result in the development of a new kind of OLED glass display made with specialty glass substrates.
Through this affiliation, both companies aim to provide OLED backplane glass substrates for Samsung Mobile Display as well as for the commercial Korean market. The upcoming variety of glass would be a combination of the Corning Lotus Glass substrate technology and Samsung Mobile Display’s OLED display.

The strength of our business relationship is built on Corning’s ability to develop and make high-technology glass with the key attributes that enable Samsung’s next-generation displays. Together, we have led the evolution of displays – from the high-growth years of CRT, to our current successful business supplying world-leading substrates for today’s high-definition LCD TVs, and now to the launch of this important new venture to advance OLED technology,” cited Wendell P. Weeks, Corning’s chairman, chief executive officer and president.
The forthcoming entity is touted be fairly advanced and would offer product solutions for existing and future OLED technologies such as handheld gadgets, IT devices, large TVs and more. Samsung has been contributing towards the advancement of display technology since quite a while now, what with its family of Galaxy devices and the Super OLED TV technology which was introduced last month at the International Consumer Electronics Show.
This business endeavor between Corning and Samsung Mobile Display is expected to be set up in Korea soon.
