Following the launch of the next generation Android 4.0 OS, several smartphones and tablets have been scrambling to get updated with it and some of the first ones to launch in the coming year are the Coby Ice Cream Sandwich tablets. Coby Electronics has declared that its new Android slate series is all set to debut in 2012.

This upcoming collection will consist of five tablets that will run on Android 4.0. These offerings are scheduled to commence retailing in the first quarter of next year. The slates will vary distinctly from each other in terms of size and style, so that consumers can choose any one that suits their preferences.

We also are proud to be among the first companies to make available a wide range of the newest, Ice Cream Sandwich-operated units, helping to further underscore our commitment to meeting the demands of a broad base of consumers with innovative products in the hottest CE categories,” stated Jodi Sally, Vice President of Marketing, Coby Electronics.

The Coby collection comprises the 7-inch MID7042, 8-inch MID8042, 9-inch MID9042, 9.7-inch MID9742 and 10-inch MID1042. Each of these Wi-Fi -enabled tablets will come incorporated with 1GB of RAM and capacitive multi-touchscreens. They will be powered by a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU and offer an expandable memory of up to 32GB.

The Coby Ice Cream Sandwich tablets are to be showcased at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas between January 10 and 13, 2012. Details regarding the prices of these slates have not yet been disclosed.
