China ready for 3G

China flag Announcements made by the Chinese government give some insights into the future of China’s mobile network. The Chinese government has announced the merger of three to six groups of China’s mobile companies.

The move has been made in order to vie against China Mobile, the country’s leading company. As per the announcements, the merged companies will be awarded 3G licenses after the deal is done.

The country’s government has, however laid down some conditions, the first one of which is the condition on China Unicom and China Netcom. Both are the country’s valuable carriers and the condition demands their merger. The other condition demands China Telecom, the country’s biggest wireline telecommunications industry, to buy Unicom’s CDMA network.

After the conditions are fulfilled, China Mobile will receive 3G license based on TD-SCDMA, China’s home-made technology, China Telecom will receive the 3G network based on WCDMA and China Netcom will receive the one based on CDMA2000.

So the future mobile subscribers in China will have to wait and watch for further developments and hope that everything goes well.
