BSNL ties with Smart Digivision to launch IPTV service

BSNL logo BSNL alliance with Smart Digivision Pvt Ltd to introduce Interactive Personalized Television and Video Services’ (IPTV) services for the BSNL subscribers. Initially the service will provide 140 TV channels, while there are future plans to offer free access to the movie libraries from Hollywood and Bollywood. On users demand video, music, games and education can also be made available.

Kuldeep Goyal, BSNL CMD spoke on the occasion, “We have ambitious plans for broadband expansion. For the coming three years, we have plans to add three million broadband connections every year.”

R.K. Aggarwal, BSNL’s Director Planning & New Services remarked “We have already made IPTV a reality in the country with more than 10 cities offering the services on commercial basis. We have planned to extent this facility to 98 cities by end of current financial year.”

The IPTV service provides digital content services via Internet protocol over a broadband connection using closed network infrastructure in which TV channels are converted in IP format and sent to TV.

The alliance plans to include services like options to pause live TV, personalized stock ticker, digital instant and scheduled recording in the near future. The Internet Protocol Television Service is currently launched in Gurgaon, Faridabad and Ambala shortly expected to launch across the country.
