Broadband2Go, 3G Wireless Internet Access initiated by Virgin Mobile USA

Virgin Broadband2go ModemVirgin Mobile USA introduced the Broadband2Go, which offers customers a 3G wireless Internet service all across the country. This service is free from an annual contract, monthly subscription or activation fee. Broadband2Go expands Virgin Mobile’s popularity of prepaid cell phone service to the newly introduced online accessibility.

The MC760 Broadband2Go device is designed in unison with Novatel Wireless and is driven by the Sprint Nationwide Network. This tool claims to be the smallest EV-DO Rev A modem. Similar to the mobile phone service, activation is trouble free and addition of megabytes can be done whenever required. It can be done with credit, debit or Virgin Mobile Top-Up cards.

“Forget the long-term contracts, monthly bills or desperately seeking a local coffee shop for Wi-Fi. Prepaid mobile broadband is ideal for students, families on the go, freelancers, anyone who needs wireless Internet access and wants to pay only when they use it. We’ve already demonstrated the benefit of no annual contracts and the ability to tailor spending to individual needs. Broadband2Go is another way to give consumers value, flexibility and convenience,” commented Bob Stohrer, CMO, Virgin Mobile USA.

Best Buy Mobile President Shawn Score mentioned, “As the exclusive retailer, we are extremely excited to bring this nationwide no-contract mobile broadband solution to our customers for the first time. We believe this product will dramatically alter the marketplace and significantly change the way consumers spend their money connecting to the Internet. For Best Buy Mobile, it aligns perfectly with our goal of providing value and choice to our customers who are looking to get more out of their mobile life.”

The Top-Up cards are available on a range of 100MB to 1GB on the pay-as-you-go model. The recent Broadband2Go offers a Top-Up card for $20, which enables users to acquire 250MB for 30 days deciphering into 12 hours of web browsing. Some of the data plans presented are $10, $40 and $60. Additionally, any VMU Top-Up card can be used.

The Broadband2Go gadget claims to have been devised in a way that makes it exceptionally robust and compact. It blends together a wide range of modern features into its tiny form factor incorporating an integrated microSD slot. It permits flawless storage and transport of files, photos or videos on a hot-swappable, removable SD storage card that has a capacity of up to 16GB.

At just over two inches long and weighing less than an ounce, the device is designed to work with any laptop, tablet PC or desktop running Windows, Mac or Linux operating systems and equipped with a Type-A USB port. The MC760 features an internal, advanced dual band diversity antenna, as well as an optional external antenna for enhanced performance on the fringe areas of networks and in highly mobile environments.

Peter Leparulo, chairman and CEO, Novatel Wireless remarked, “We’re delighted to work with Virgin Mobile USA to deliver mobile broadband solutions that provide industry leading performance and unprecedented functionality for our customers. The MC760 combines powerful performance and high capacity removable memory storage with a sleek form factor to provide the ultimate connectivity solution for users on the go.”

Virgin Mobile USA’s Broadband2Go requires no activation fee and there are no roaming charges. Customers have a real-time usage meter to monitor and check ‘Remaining Megabytes of Use’ at any given time. From the Broadband2Go My Account page, customers are provided approximate estimates of how many hours of web-browsing, video-viewing and number of emails each plan will generally handle.

Broadband2Go will be available exclusively at Best Buy Mobile starting in late June for $149.99. Virgin Mobile USA’s partnership with Best Buy Mobile will also make the new it available at airport kiosks later this summer.
