BMW’s app for Samsung Galaxy Gear turns the latter into a Bond watch

It may sound absurd, but BMW (and some more car companies) was present at the CES 2014 in Las Vegas to show off some features and apps it has developed to make driving a little more automated. The car maker has designed a new application for the Samsung Galaxy Gear that turns the latter into something that you may have only seen in James Bond movies.

An article on Hindustan Times tells us in detail about the new technology. The application for the smartwatch has been designed to let people keep a track of various maintenance-related things pertaining to the brand new electric car from BMW, the i3. Not only can you check if you have locked your vehicle’s cars and windows or not, but also adjust climate controls and send routes to the navigation system in the car, right from your Gear. It even tells you about the charge on the car battery.

And what’s more, BMW has recently developed a new automated technology for self-driving cars which was showcased at the expo. The system is said to be capable of guiding and controlling a car autonomously. A lot of people who are not too good at parking cars will be glad to know that a rather advanced self-parking technology could be in the offing. It is said to be capable of identifying parking spaces and controlling the steering wheel and brakes. Apparently, the system that stays activated as long as the dedicated button is pressed, can even make forward and backward movements without the driver’s intervention.

Mercedes too has plans of releasing an application like BMW has introduced for the Samsung Galaxy Gear, but the former has chosen Pebble as its partner.
