BlackBerry Torch’s defining moment captured on arrival in India

BlackBerry Torch

The BlackBerry Torch has previously been shedding a lot of light in the American, Canadian and European markets. It has now expanded its spectrum to include the Indian industry. Today at an event in Mumbai, the curtains recoiled to introduce the latest addition in RIM’s Indian portfolio of smartphones, the Blackberry Torch 9800. What appeared to be a stupendous stage for the grand entry of the Torch was augmented with a tinge of glamor, as Deepika Padukone walked the ramp with the handset.

A BlackBerry user herself she doffed the silk off BlackBerry’s latest addition which attributed several first timer features. The device is touted to be the first RIM smartphone to sport a 3.2” touchscreen and QWERTY keypad. Foremost handset hosting the BlackBerry 6, it is also claimed to be the primary device equipped with the WebKit Browser. Tabs have been added to the browser enabling users to concurrently launch and visit multiple sites. Providing a speedy access to HTML web pages and HTML emails, it features pinch to zoom and double tap zoom technology for easy visibility.

“With its new high-performance browser, powerful touch screen interface and easy-to-use BlackBerry keyboard, the highly anticipated BlackBerry Torch offers an exceptional mobile experience for both consumers and business users in India,” asserted Frenny Bawa, Managing Director, India, Research In Motion.

The latest RIM OS integrates a redesigned interface which operates smoothly with the trackpad and touchscreen. Moreover, the BlackBerry 6 offers expanded messaging capabilities using intuitive features to make the management of the RSS feeds (Social Feeds), and social networking effortless. The handset embeds direct access to BBM (BlackBerry Messenger), MySpace, Twitter, Facebook, and several IMs. It includes dedicated YouTube and Podcasts applications.

A key highlight is the freshly added Universal search which rummages in the device for music, videos, contacts, messages, email and other content on the smartphone. Furthermore, it extends the hunt on the Internet or tracks down applications on the BlackBerry App World. With an in-built GPS, mobile aficionados can indulge in geo-tagging and location-based applications. It renders support to 3G (UMTS/HSDPA) networks and proffers Wi-Fi (b/g/n) connectivity.

Fitted with a 5MP camera featuring autofocus and flash, dilettante photographers can utilize functions such as image stabilization, scene modes, 2x zoom, and video recording. The Torch endows users with a deluge of memory with 4GB internal memory and a 4GB card included, plus a microSD/SDHD memory card slot supporting expandable memory of up to 32GB. It offers a GSM talk time of up to 5.5 hours and a standby time of up to 13 days.

Flaunting a price tag of Rs. 35,000, the BlackBerry Torch is now available in India.
