After the luxurious entry into Singapore, the BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981 India launch has just gone live. RIM seems to have taken its ‘elite’ target audience rather seriously, going by the fact that the handset is priced at Rs. 1,39,990.

This piece of hardware has been designed rather intricately, courtesy of the partnership between Porsche Design and RIM. The exterior of the device in question is crafted from stainless steel, while its back cover is graced with hand-wrapped leather.

The 2.8-inch touch display proffering images in resolutions of 640 x 480p, is touted to be ‘crystal clear,’ while a carefully designed QWERTY keypad rests on the outer surface. This device has been endowed with the exclusive Porsche Design UI along with the Wikitude augmented reality app.

“The brand new P’9981 smartphone is a milestone product for Porsche Design. It is a representation of the iconic Porsche Design styling philosophy and RIM’s technology-driven focus, which combine to deliver engineered luxury and performance in a smartphone for the discerning consumer,” commented Dr. Juergen Gessler, CEO Porsche Design Group.

Moreover, those laying hands on the phone will also be able to boast of a unique PIN code allotted to each of the units. It gets its fuel from a processor clocking in at a frequency of 1.2GHz. Courtesy of the OS, the BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981 employs Liquid Graphics technology to render the screen noticeably intuitive.

The smartphone arrives with integrated NFC support and 8GB internal memory. Its hoarding space can be expanded via a slot provided for a 32GB microSD card. Additionally, it shows off a 5MP snapper that offers 720p HD video recording capability. The entire show is brought to life by the BlackBerry 7 OS, which flaunts a host of pre-loaded applications and the next generation BlackBerry browser.

Like we’ve already mentioned, the BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981 price in India is marked at Rs. 1,39,990. It will be up for grabs via BlackBerry Premium and Exclusive stores in the country.
