BlackBerry Messenger coming ‘soon’ to Samsung Galaxy phones

The BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) app will soon be spotted on Samsung Galaxy smartphones. And BlackBerry not only has plans to make it available through Google Play, but also the Samsung App store. Now, before we all get excited, we’d like to mention that the announcement has only come in favor of those residing in Africa, as of now.

Even with an official statement made by both companies, which comes courtesy of CrackBerry, there is no word on exactly when the service will be made available to Android users. Nevertheless, the South Korean company’s VP and COO in Africa, George Ferreira, has reconfirmed that BlackBerry Messenger can be downloaded free of cost whenever it lands in the app stores.

In the process, Ferreira also highlighted a few of the BBM functions coming to the said smartphones, stating that personal, multi-person and group chats in real time with up to 29 people can be carried out. The app will also sanction trading pictures and voice notes.

All in all, this development just drives in more diversity amongst chat applications for Android and iOS loyalists. But the question still remains that where does this leave BB devices which appear to be willingly parting with their USP?

That being said, the BB Z10 maker didn’t reveal any details concerning the service’s availability for iOS and additional Android devices apart from the Samsung Galaxy gadgets, or even other regions across the globe for that matter. But at least we know that the app will be out before the end of September this year.
